Riddle me this…

What’s black all over, with striped green suspenders and tie, green bowler hat, and a mask? Why, the Riddler, of course!

This costume is so easy to put together, yet so perfect! Just grab any pair of black slacks, black button down shirt, and striped tie. Hopefully you’ll already have in one of your closets at home. If not, head on over to Walmart or Target, or my favorite, a thrift shop. Then buy ready-made Riddler accessories (hat, mask, gloves, cane) and you’re set!

So perfectly evil, don’t you think??!!

“Homemade” t-shirts

Hi All!

For my recent trip to Comic con, I was desperately looking for t-shirts for my boys/men to wear. They were not into cosplay, but agreed to wear t-shirts to go along with our Batman theme. So, ok, one problem solved- but the real problem was finding these dang t-shirts! Finding a Batman t-shirt was no problem, but finding anything else was another story.

So after searching Target, Walmart, Journey, Hot Topic, eBay, etc., my sister finally asks me “Why don’t you just make it?” Uh… I don’t know!!  Thank God for sisters!! And that’s what I did- and oh boy was it so simple!

With transfer sheets, I simply found the images I wanted on my t-shirts, ( which I bought on sale at Michaels for $3.99, second one half off!), printed it ( actually my sissy did this part for me), and then ironed it on.

Voila!! I think I spent more on gas money trying to find these shirt than I did just making it myself!

What do you think?

“Let’s put a smile on that face”

Sometimes my costume ideas are decided by what I can find in my kids’ closets. We’re heading to Comic Con. My 8 year old daughter decided to be Harley Quinn. We found that costume in Party City, and although not really up to my standards, it was pretty cute. So, she’s dictating the rest of our costumes- we’re doing the cool (albeit, played) Batman theme.

Now the next decision is what is everyone going to be? Well, although I love making costumes and I LOVE dressing up my kids, just can’t do it. I’m lame, I admit it, so I claimed Cat Woman- with black skinny jeans, a black top, and cat ears, I can pass as being dressed somewhat, but then I thought, how cool would it be to go all out and dress up my 2 year old as a bada** villain?!

So there I go, searching all over Pinterest and googling female batman villain costumes.  But the only ones that kept on surfacing were Harley Quinn, (which my 8 year old is already going to be), Catwoman (which is reserved for lame-o me), and Poison Ivy ( which my older daughter was 2 years ago)! Ugh! So now what?! The choice now was to be an obscure female villain (well at least to me- but then again, what do I know? I’m far from a Batman expert), or gender bender villain ….

So what do I do? Look in the closets and let the choice come to me!

This is what I find- a purple blazer of some sort and a purple tutu! With some slight alterations, it’s perfect for The Joker!

So, I just take in the blazer and the skirt to make it smaller to fit my 2 year old (they’re size 10!) and it turns out to be perfect. Now I need a vest (which unfortunately I had to make from scratch- but was not difficult at all),  a purple tie, and purple stockings. There were no purple ties at home that would fit my daughter, so I made one very quickly, modeled after one of husband’s ties.

Now to find purple stockings. Ideally, I hoped to find purple and black striped stockings. I mean, how hard would it be to find around this season, right?! But nooooo, they were no where to be found. So, ok, my second option, just plain purple. Again, no purple tights anywhere!!!! Seriously, it’s Halloween season- you would think that it would be easy to find purple tights for girls. But no, I could not find it anywhere.  So, there I go dying white stockings purple for her using RIT.

The costume is complete with just a few final touches-green hairspray for her hair and red lip liner for that infamous joker smile. Now, if this costume doesn’t  put a smile on your face, I don’t know what will!!

Note: After making this costume, I’m questioning my decision to make her into a good character for Halloween! I think after this Halloween, it’s going be villains  all the way!!

If anyone has any other ideas for cute toddler villain costumes, definitely let me know!
